Dentistry is the profession that cares for the oral health of the population, acting with preventive, healing and rehabilitating measures of mouth diseases. The dentist-surgeon receives a training that makes them able to diagnose mouth or systemic diseases that appear as oral manifestations. Undergraduate Studies The aim is to train dental surgeons with solid scientific knowledge in order to achieve awareness of professional responsibility to society, to be part of clinical care improvements in the country and to improve the current situation of public healthcare. The course embraces in its classes the most important achievements within the scientific community, providing undergraduate students highly qualified technical and scientific conditions to operate, as well as support for the development of humanistic and ethical values regarding the social conditions of the country. The course's total workload comprises 5265 hours. The full-time undergraduate course has ten semesters, while the part-time evening course has twelve. There are three types of scholarships for undergraduate students: Undergraduate research: activities that stimulate the development of research projects, encouraging students to participate in projects that are internal or external to the School. They also aim to increase and strengthen research centers and groups. The integration of students into research activities develops critical knowledge. Thus, the research experience enables a more complete academic training and contributes to the training of human resources for research. Teaching through Research Program: this program supports undergraduate research projects, that are based on themes related to improvements and the qualification of education. The scholarships in this program are intendend primarly to undergraduate students enrolled in the 3rd semester and who have proven that their families earn no more than five times the minimum wage per month. Learning with Culture and University Extensions: this program is integrated with the USP Support Policy for Student Permanence and Training. It intends to support culture and university extension activities within research projects of undergraduate students, especially the ones which deal with the challenges within the reality intra and extra university.
